What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others
STEVE A. CARTER
March 8th 1975 - May 13th 2021

Steve Carter was born and raised in the Kingston area. He grew up in the small community of Amherstview just outside Kingston. His love and passion for hockey would span almost 5 decades.
Steve played rep hockey in Ernestown Township (now Loyalist) through the 1980’s before graduating to Junior B with the Kingston Voyageurs. His dream was fully realized when he was drafted to the Detroit Junior Red Wings in 1992, then later joined the Belleville Bulls where he finished his Junior career in Canada. Steve joined the Fort Worth Fire in the mid 1990’s and finished his playing career with the Fort Worth Bramhas in 1999.
In the Spring of 1999, returned home and joined the Kingston Police as a Constable. As Steve began his own family, he returned to local minor hockey as a coach. He coached and mentored many young players and supported their hockey dreams both on and off the ice. The road to fulfilling our childhood dreams can often be a rocky road filled with obstacles, disappointments, setbacks and challenges. Steve was a source of support for many youth and always made himself available during these difficult moments. He had a special way reaching young athletes and always found the right words to help them get back on track.
Steve had a deep appreciation for every child’s dream of playing in the NHL, however he knew the greater value was the development of vital life skills and lessons that could be learned through the sport of hockey. Hockey teaches kids the importance of work ethic, teamwork, overcoming adversity, taking responsibility and pushing perceived limitations to discover their true God given potential in life.
On May 13th 2021, Steve passed away suddenly. In 2023, the Kingston and Area Minor Hockey Association launched the Steve Carter Intro to Hockey Program to honour his life long passion for the sport and to support the hockey dreams of Kingston and area youth. Funds raised from the raffle support registration for participants, ages 4 - 10yrs. of age.
